Collaboration
Heart of West Michigan United Way works closely with community organizations to address problems in the three critical areas of education, income and health with a goal to help direct change in West Michigan. Some of the recent collaborations between United Way and labor, businesses, government, and agencies are detailed below:
- In March of 2009, after receiving a share from the Countrywide Financial Settlement, HWMUW took a leadership role in assisting Kent County’s foreclosure needs by determining the best strategy for allocating the settlement funds.
- Another United Way collaboration involves a new initiative between our Volunteer Center, the Grand Rapids Community Foundation and Atlantic Philanthropies that looks to engage new volunteers, age 50+ in addressing social issues, starting with our community’s efforts to end homelessness.
- In November of 2009, United Way’s 2-1-1 partnered with the Kent County Health Department to provide the H1N1 influenza vaccine to the at risk population in Kent County.
