Did you know?

Project Blueprint was established in 1988 with funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Heart of West Michigan United Way was one of the first United Ways in the country to develop a program aimed at minority inclusion in volunteer leadership.

United Way’s Project Blueprint is a leadership development program that aims to increase the number of professionals of color providing leadership in local health, government and human services organizations.  Project Blueprint training consists of four evening sessions plus a visit to a board meeting.

Topics include:

  • reason for diversifying boards
  • cultural diversity
  • board member resposibilities
  • effective communication
  • mentoring and networking
  • group dynamics and role playing
  • how to be effective in fundraising

Benefits for Professionals of Color:

  • Participate in four evening sessions and a visit to a community organization board meeting
  • Learn about leadership, diversity, board and parliamentary procedures, and financial and fundraising responsibilities
  • Meet and network with other professionals of color in West Michigan
  • Become a potential board or committee candidate for hundreds of leadership opportunities throughout West Michigan

Benefits for agencies and organizations:  Project Blueprint can be a resource for nonprofit agencies and other community organizations as they work to enhance and diversify their leadership capacity. If your organization is focusing on creative fund development strategies or diversifying its funding streams, consider inviting a Project Blueprint graduate to serve in your organization.
