What Sue does at United Way: Oversees employee engagement, human resources, benefits, compensation and the operations which include the building, facility alliance work, and the data center. On behalf of the United Way, I have forged a collaborative partnership with Grand Rapids’ Partners for a Racism-Free Community whereby our two organizations mutually support and engage in several community events promoting diversity and inclusion.
What Sue did before United Way: I have been a human resource professional for more than 30 years, and have a career and body of work spanning for-profit and not-for-profit sectors, general HR consulting, benefits administration, employee and labor relations.
What Sue does when she isn’t working: I enjoy flower gardening and spending time with my family and grandchildren.
Issue Sue is most passionate about: Issues around family whether it be financial stability, food, and/or adequate housing. Also, education for our youth is so important, they are our future!
Sue’s favorite part of her job: Working with the amazing staff!
Favorite volunteer activity: When I have time, I love to volunteer at my grandchildren’s schools.
Favorite thing about West Michigan: I like the big town opportunities West Michigan has to offer, yet with an ease at which one can get around.
Favorite place to eat or drink: I enjoy eating out and trying new and different restaurants. It is often surprising and exciting to find out-of-the-way quaint places.
