Celebrate United 2016

At Celebrate United, we applauded the spirit and generosity of Kent County and recognized those who play a vital role in the breadth of work that we can accomplish when we live united.

We are truly honored to be a part of this collaborative community. We are surrounded by people who genuinely look out for those around them and who want to make a positive difference in other people’s lives: Whether it’s the child who runs down the hallway because she can’t wait to meet with her Schools of Hope tutor, or the senior who no longer has to choose between filling his prescription or buying groceries, or the parents who can focus on work because they know that their child has a safe place to go after school – these are the things that make our community stronger.

At the event, we had the chance to reflect on the impact we have had together and what we hope to accomplish in the future. Check out the pictures from the event here

As an organization, Heart of West Michigan United Way is taking a stand to fighting poverty in Kent County and to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive in our community. We can’t wait for someone else to come in and change our community for us, we have to stick together and provide hope and solutions for the future. We are all connected, we all have a stake in making Kent County a healthy and prosperous community, and when we work together, we can create a better life for all.

On June 21, we will have a unique opportunity to feed the hungry families in Kent County by hosting Food From the Heart. This community-wide event will bring together volunteers to assemble ready-to-prepare meals that will be distributed to Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank. If we bring together our goal of 300 volunteers, in just two hours, we can create packages that yield 70,000 servings of protein-fortified meals! Visit hwmuw.org/events to learn more and to sign up!

Please feel free to continue sharing your pictures and stories on social media using #CELEBRATEUNITED, and don’t forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.

Thank you for all you do to make Kent County a great place to live and work!
