This National Volunteer Week, we want to thank you for choosing to make service a part of your life. That choice improves the lives of others and helps West Michigan thrive.
You have accomplished amazing things this year!
Hundreds of you spent many hours offering free tax services to local residents at 15 sites across the county through the Kent County Tax Credit Coalition. Last tax season, you helped put $5.5 million back into our local economy.
You supported local students as Volunteer Reading Tutors in Schools of Hope. Your support not only helped first through third graders increase their literacy skills, it also provided the individual attention and encouragement that motivates students to learn and succeed in the classroom.
You helped families in need through collection drives, assembled 75,000 meals at Food from the Heart, and completed more than 90 projects on Day of Caring.
Using our Volunteer Center portal, you found where you were needed. You hit the streets- planting trees, building community gardens, cleaning up blight, and organizing healthy outdoor activities. You supported groups and individuals- mentoring youth, advocating for victims of abuse, and teaching computer classes. You served behind-the-scenes, building on organizations' capacities through data entry, consultation, and administrative support.
The Volunteer Center at the Heart of West Michigan United Way is so fortunate to be able to make connections between caring residents and community needs, every day.
