If you’re every feeling doubtful about the generosity of our community, just spend time at Heart of West Michigan United Way during the holiday season. We posted our annual Holiday Giving & Volunteering Guide at the end of October and the response has been incredible!
But there are still plenty of ways to help local families this month. In fact, Bethany Christian Services and Arbor Circle have a critical need for holiday sponsors for their families.
PARTICIPATE IN A COMMUNITY GIVING PROGRAM
Urgent: Sponsor a foster family for Christmas with Bethany Christian Services
Urgent: Adopt-a-Family at Arbor Circle
Support the Heartside Christmas Store through Degage Ministries
Contribute to Camp Casey’s Horsey House Calls
Give a gift to a child in need at D.A. Blodgett – St. John’s
Donate mason jars for the Revive & Thrive Project to fill with soup for families facing health challenges
VOLUNTEER AS A FAMILY
Be a Winter Warrior with Habitat for Humanity
Bake cookies for families through Ronald McDonald House
Deliver meals to seniors through Meals on Wheels
Take down decorations at Gilda’s Club after the holidays
GET A SHIRT, GIVE A SHIRT
Michigan clothing company M22 is offering you the chance to check items off your holiday shopping list and do something kind for a neighbor at the same time. Their Shirt for Shirt program will provide one t-shirt to a Heart of West Michigan United Way agency for every shirt you purchase. Their goal: 5,000 shirts by Christmas.
The shirts will be distributed to nine local agencies:
Boys & Girls Clubs of Grand Rapids Youth Commonwealth
Catholic Charities West Michigan
Circles Grand Rapids
Family Promise of Grand Rapids
Mel Trotter Ministries
Steepletown Neighborhood Services
Westwood Middle School Challenge Scholars
Make it your New Year’s resolution to volunteer with us in 2019. Our mission to create a thriving community continues even after the decorations come down. You can find a whole schedule of volunteer opportunities posted on our Volunteer Center.
