Hundreds of local students make a difference for Global Youth Service Day

April 20, 2018

Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) celebrates and mobilizes the millions of young people who improve their communities through service. GYSD is the largest service event in the world and the only one dedicated to the contributions that children and youth make 365 days of the year. This year, we spent GYSD with more than 500 local student volunteers from:

  • Grand Rapids City High Middle School

  • Ottawa Hills High School

  • Innovation Central High School

  • Forest Hills Eastern High School

Together, we completed service projects for:

  • Blandford Nature Center

  • Camp Blodgett

  • 20 Liters

  • Friends of Grand Rapids Parks

  • Kent County Parks Department

  • Meals on Wheels Western Michigan

  • Kids' Food Basket

  • Kent County Animal Shelter

  • Clark Retirement Community

  • Kent Conservation District.

Special thanks to our project leaders from Cherry Health AmeriCorps and all of our student volunteers!
