STUFF THE SLED

HELP BRING HOLIDAY CHEER TO YOUNG CHILDREN IN NEED.

When you purchase items from our wish list, you help us provide holiday gift bags to local students enrolled in programs at Head Start for Kent County. • Head Start for Kent County is a nonprofit that partners with parents to help meet their children’s basic needs so they have the freedom to learn, interact with peers, and grow intellectually. At no cost to the families, their early childhood programs support the well-being and development of children from birth to age five by focusing on education, nutrition, medical and dental care, parent involvement, and social services.

Home Visiting: Home Visitors meet with families for 90 minutes each week. Together, they discuss family strengths, develop strategies to achieve goals, and find community resources to meet their needs. They also offer Group Socialization Meetings for families and children to spend time together, build relationships, and learn about child development and parenting issues.

Infant/Toddler Rooms: Head Start’s infant/toddler classrooms provide a safe, nurturing environment in a mixed-age group setting. Teachers use their knowledge of childhood development to partner with parents in providing meaningful routines and learning experiences for each child. Head Start also provides formula, baby food, diapers, and wipes.

Preschool: Since children learn through experience, Head Start provides consistent daily routines to ensure children stay engaged in meaningful work and play. In addition to language, math, science, social studies, movement, and art skills, their preschool curriculum helps students develop skills in cooperation, problem solving, and personal responsibility.

Stuff the Sled is an easy way for families and friend groups looking for an alternative to traditional gift exchanges that are equitable, and bring joy to children in our community.

  • Some of the program changes may continue moving forward, but we hope to add more in-person elements in the future.

  • If your efforts aren’t going as planned, we’re happy to make some suggestions for ways to get people excited about purchasing items. To get help with your collection drive or reduce your goal, contact us at thevolunteercenter@hwmuw.org.
